One of the biggest surprises in the 2010/2011 school year in SDSSAA was the rise of the St.Benedict boys hockey program. This season was a very successful year for the Bears marked by several firsts for the program which created a lot of buzz in the school and around the city. This season marked the first time our Bears made it to the finals, the first time that we have qualified for NOSSA as well OFSSA championships. This is also the first time a Bears hockey player won individual awards, including the scoring title and league MVP (Catlin Cargill) and the most sportsmanlike player award (Corey McEwen). The boys lost a heartbreaker in the NOSSA final 6-5 in overtime and made the most of their experience at OFSSA in Timmins. This year definitely was a stepping stone for the program and the pieces are in place to build on this success in the years to come.
